Election Day, 4 November 2008

Well, I voted in a general election for the very first time in my life today. That's the big news, I suppose.

I had to wake up at 5:30 this morning just so I could actually vote and not be late for class. I got to the Wetumpka Civic Center at about 6:30 A.M., and there were about 30 people in front of me ready to go vote. It's amazing how early people can get to the polls. By the time they opened the doors, I bet there was a hundred or more people standing and waiting in line.

The overall process went rather quickly. I was in and out within 15 minutes. They had the paper ballots where you connect the arrows. I didn't vote straight Republican. I voted for Republicans, Democrats, and even an Independent. In the major areas, I voted for McCain/Palin, Sessions, and Love.

The reason I voted for McCain/Palin is because of the issue of abortion. That is my main reason. He would place judges in the Supreme Court that would overturn Roe v. Wade and end the mass slaughter of innocents for the sake of the comfort of a woman or man. It saddens me deeply that we have placed a higher value on the comfort of a person more than the actual life of another person. Yes, that child is life indeed. Now, I understand that the ideal situation is Congress making a law or even a Constitutional ammendment describing exactly what life is and that the destruction of this life is murder. But, I am also a practical person, and we must end this slaughter as quickly as possible.

Additionally, Obama would only increase the government economic welfare in a great way. As I was driving this morning to the polls, I was listening to the radio, I heard something very depressing. There was a lady who was being quoted to be essentially stating that if Obama won (and she was voting for Obama), she would not have to worry about filling her car up with gasoline or worry about paying her mortgage. Firstly, Obama has not promised to do such a thing. I submit that if Obama is indeed shot at, it will be by those people who supported him in the past and even voted for him, but do not think that he has fulfilled what they think Obama promised to do. Take our lady for example.

Secondly, this increase in welfare is not a good thing at all. Joseph Stalin had another name for the redistributation of wealth: Communism. The essential principle of Communism is the redistributation of wealth. Some may call it Socialism, but Socialism is only a degree of Communism. And what is welfare: the restributation of wealth. Now, let's take a look at the logic of welfare. If someone gets money for nothing that came from responsible taxpayers like myself, and this is increased, then what is preventing me from thinking, "Well, this person gets more money than me, and they don't even have to work for it. Gee, why should I even work at all or work so hard? Seems like a stupid idea to me. I'll just take the free money." Now, as more and more people think this, the more and more burden that will be put on the responsible taxpayers paying for these programs. As the taxpayers foot a greater bill, they will eventually give in and just take the free money. Now, what if this goes on until all Americans are dopey Americans that are on these programs? What will happen the economy then? I submit that the Great Depression will look like happy days.

Welfare is essentially forced charity or stealing from the rich to feed the poor.

Now, you may think that I am being a selfish little brat who does not care for fellow man. But I do. Americans give billions and billions of dollars every year to private charity out of their own free will. Now, if we take away government welfare, I submit that this number will only increase because there is more money available. And anyways, with government welfare, we are also paying for the beaurocracy. Private charity is not only right, but is also much more effective than forced government charity.

Now, I understand that McCain is not for the abolotion of all welfare programs, but he will not make it greater than Obama.

And let it be recorded that I do not support McCain fully. I chose to be practical on these two issues.

After I got through with voting, I headed on to class.

Chemistry is always interesting. For some reason, they call me "Giggles" in that class because supposedly I like to giggle quite frequently. We had lecture and a lab. We finished discussing come gas law stuff. The was about finding the value of "R" in the Ideal Gas Law equation PV=nRT. Boring, I know.

In art class, I got to share my project. There was one girl who had a lovely painting using oil pastels. Very nice it was indeed.

In speech class, we finished covering the seven steps to formal speaking. Transitions are important. Write what you want to say on note cards. And practice, practice, practice.

The sad thing is that Dr. Prochaska is an abortion supporter. He will refer to those who are anti-abortion, or Pro-Life, as Neanderthals because they do not support that woman's control over her own reproductive system. What about the life of that child, that human being? I am going one of my speeches to inform the audience that a living human being is growing inside the mother.

In English class, we just worked on drafting and introductions to our research paper. I am writing on the abolotion of certain types of welfare that essentially amount to the government giving away free money, such as cash assistance, Medicaid, and food stamps. Should be a good paper. I'm enjoying it.

I want to leave you all with a thought: Your vote is not your only voice. Goodness me. Soldiers have fought, bled, and died for all your voices. The First Ammendment to the U.S. Constitution of 1787 states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." Yep. You heard it. Be responsible, unlazy citizens and do something about the problems. Stop griping, complaining, and gossiping about it. Do something. Take action. This is what America was founded on. Jefferson wrote in the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
So, realize the last, greatest, more important, and least known check and balance: the checks and balances between the government and the governed or the people. And the Second Ammendment provides you with that legal right. I believe that the founders of this country specifically knew that men are corrupt and must be restrained in whatever manner possible. I suppose I am tired of people thinking that teh only civil duties they have as citizens is to vote and serve on a jury. This is laziness. It is simply not enough to just vote, but be active in your government. Keep it in line. Check its power constantly.
